| Customer Reviews: A Devotional Study Designed for Nurses January 21, 2009 Richard R. Blake (Bridgman, Michigan) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
"A devotional prayer book for nurses using Colossians 1:9-12" is the first in the "Nurses Coffee Break Series" of devotional studies. Carrie M. Dameron, MSN, RNBC draws on her experiences as a health care professional to introduce a holistic approach to incorporating the Word of God into the practice of nursing.
By adapting illustrations and parallels from the hospital setting Carrie blends together a stimulating narrative, a prayer from the Colossian passage, a suggested passage for memorizing, and a "Brewing Time" for reflecting on a thought provoking question or challenge from the days devotional.
Each of the thirteen sections of the studies take account of practical aspects encountered by of nurses in light of principles contained in the Bible. Ethical issues, spiritual needs of patients and colleagues, and critical thinking are examples of the rich material considered.
Spiritual matters more specifically talk about denying self to walk worthy of the Lord and the challenge to exhibiting the fruit of the spirit in all the "good works" being done.
Practical suggestions for personally increasing your knowledge of God, perseverance, and meeting the spiritual conflicts of doubt, depression, and defeat are offer help and encouragement. Carrie challenges the reader to share their inheritance in Christ by sharing their faith with others, being specific in praying for a colleague or individual patient. I was reminded of the importance of praise and thanksgiving in experiencing the fullness of joy in my Christian walk.
Carrie has a gift for succinctly getting to the heart of an issue. Her writing is warm, convincing, convicting, and encouraging. She reaches across the table to share a cop of coffee or tea in a conversational setting of friendship and fellowship in a health care setting in an effort to find mutual encouragement.
